Proper Brown is an independent platform championing South Asian creativity, culture, stories and ideas.

In print, online and in the room.

Made by and for South Asian creatives, Proper Brown brings people together across our print magazine, online and in person, while platforming the stories and ideas shaping our culture today. We champion emerging and established creatives, create opportunities for people to connect, and put good work in front of the audiences it deserves.

Got something worth sharing? Send it our way.

We’re always looking for stories, ideas and creative work from across the South Asian diaspora and beyond to feature online, in print and across Proper Brown projects. That could be writing, visual work, something personal, political, or even something playful. If it feels like it belongs here, we want to see it.

Not sure how to shape the pitch? Our guide covers what we’re looking for and how to put it together.

The Cosy Desi Club Magazine — Issue 3: In Protest

Released in July 2026, Issue 3 brings together 43 contributors from across the diaspora, each responding to the theme In Protest. Across poetry, essays, visual art, photography, music, and experimental work, the issue looks at what it means to resist - on the streets, at home, and in the body.

This issue holds work that confronts genocide, austerity, and the systems and governments that displace and define lives. Alongside this are internal refusals: the daily acts of saying no, of not disappearing into what’s expected.

In Protest moves through anger, solidarity, and survival without trying to resolve them. What comes through in this issue is protest as something that’s both collective and solitary, but always urgent in the way we respond.
